What it does

Gate Valves

A gate valve works on the principle of a gate moving perpendicular to the flow direction to close the line completely. In the fully open position the gate retracts clear of the flow cross-section, so pressure drop is very low; this makes gate valves the preferred choice for main-line and isolation duties that stay open and are closed only for full shut-off. They are not suitable for throttling: at partial opening the gate vibrates and the seat face wears. Resilient-seated (soft-sealing) models provide tight shut-off on water and wastewater lines. Models with a position indicator allow the gate position to be observed externally. Knife gate types are designed to cut through deposits as they close, for slurry and pulp lines carrying solid particles.
