What it does
Globe Valves
A globe valve routes the fluid through an S-shaped path inside the body and closes by the perpendicular movement of the disc onto the seat. This arrangement allows gradual adjustment of flow rate, so the valve serves not only for on/off duty but also for throttling. Because the sealing surface is perpendicular to the flow, tight shut-off is easier to achieve and seat wear on frequently adjusted lines is lower than with gate valves. The straight body suits inline runs, while the angle type removes the need for an additional elbow where the line turns 90°. Bellows-sealed models are preferred on steam and heat-transfer fluid lines where stem packing leakage is not acceptable.
